Oh Please, Not Another Mormon Blogger!

Well, here I am.
I know what you're thinking. Not her too! How many newlywed, Mormon bloggers can we fit in this world wide web of ours.
Well friends, once my Instagram posts started getting so long that they were no longer socially acceptable, I figured it was time to start this blogging thing back up.

I've always loved the idea of blogging!
I have a lot of thoughts and my favorite thing to do is share them with other people. I talk too much, I do!  My husband and mother thank you for supporting this blog so that they can catch a break from my endless rambling.  It's my new outlet for my desire to overly communicate. And, people can read it by choice. This whole thing really is a win-win.

Here's what you can expect from this Megan-being-a blogger thing:

  • Recipes for lots of unhealthy, tasty food (and sometimes healthy too, Mom)
  • Simple DIY crafting ideas
  • Life hacks
  • Too many pictures
  • Lots of personal stuff you probably don't want to know about me

This is gonna be fun, guys.
Stay tuned!

This is how Justin feels about me starting my blog up again.
(He's cute, huh??)

November 3rd

WOW!
How is the time flying so fast!!!
Every second passes faster and faster!
This week was great! We started teaching a new family that is reeeeally special
They went to church and LOVED it!!! The dad used to drink a lot and didn´t help his family a bunch. He never had interest in going to any church.
Then, one bright and shiny day we knocked on their door.....actually we just clap outside peoples houses... and lo and behold they love us and the church!
He has stopped drinking and cut his long curly hair and shaved all without us saying anything! We taught them a few times this week and they were excited all week long to go to church!
They loved the meetings and that night we visited them again and marked a date for them to be baptized! They are so special and cute and I love them so much! We´re going to try to teach their 4 adult kids this week too and help everyone get excited about the gospel.
We´re going to have their first family night with them tonight and watch a cheesy-ly wonderful church film. "Juntos Para Sempre". It´s a wild success down here.
The other family we are teaching is doind well! They also have made big big changes these weeks. They are saving money so they can get married and also be baptized.
We also started teaching a way cool guy named Joel. He was a referral from a member and we are way excited to be teaching him. He´s 21 and a manager at Mcdonald´s and way way cool.
(Funny side note. McDonald´s here is like way fancy and expensive.
Think Olive Garden.
 Weird....right? )
He has a lot of questions and doubts which makes us giddy! He has a lot of potential! He came to church on Sunday and then hung out in the chapel and participated in the choir that afternoon. Pray for him!!

I am so tired.
I have never been so tired in my life or thought it was even possible to be so exhausted. It is a wonderful feeling. We have literally been running several times a day to teach more people or pick people up for church or get home on time because we had to cram in just one more lesson....literally running... like not even jogging you guys.
I love my sweetie sweet companion sooooooo much. She is helping me be the missionary I always wanted to be. We laugh so hard and the spirit is always so strong in our lessons. Every day we are seeing miracles.
On Sunday afternoon after running (literally) a whole bunch a week long I was literally at my limit. My voice has been gone and if not gone only 1/2 there for 2 weeks, my whole body was aching weak and I had ZERO energy to even smile.
After making a few phone calls in the chapel, I asked if we could kneel down and pray.
I prayed and poured my heart out pleading the Lord to heal my tired body and give my energy to continue.
We got off our knees and went to work.
I donpt know how but I literally got a wave of excitement and energy. I was still exhausted but I truly felt the Lord carrying me. We went from the chapel to the new family we´re teaching and marked their baptism date. It was an amazing experience and I know the power of prayer is real.
I love this work.
I´m so glad I get to be a missionary with a nametag for 2 more weeks and a missionary of the gospel for the rest of my life.
I know my Savior lives and that this is His church.
I LOVE YOU!
Sister Brown
The pictures :
We saw brazilian santa twins. They said ho ho ho ho and wished us a "Feliz Natal"
The mommy and baby is a inactive member that we´re helping return. Her baby was blessed yesterday!!
yay!
My lovely darling companion Sister Lugen
This last one is from today. We´re downtown shopping and I ran into a guy we baptized in my last area!! He´s doing great and is preparing for a mission!!!

Oct 27th

What a week!!
Would you believe me if I told you that I was hospital sick again??
I think this time I had/still have a little infection in my throat and nose. This time on "Brazilian Illnesses vs. Sister Brown" there was a crazy twist where my thoat was so irritated that I couldn´t speak for 3 days and I had to stay at our apartment.
There is nothing more of a bummer than a sick missionary.
Anyways, I survived and my sweet companion took such good care of me and even made me carrot juice that I drank and loved.
(the mission changes people, ok mom?).
The family that I mentioned last week is going great! We found out this week that the dad who we thought was a less active member is actually an investigator because he was baptized and never confirmed. They are making a lot of big changes in their lives and getting ready to get married. Most days with them we feel like we´re marriage conselhers on Dr. Phil but it´s working out great.
Growing up is so weird. The majority of the time I still feel like little girl Megan and I forget that I´m a grown up living in another country soon to be returned missionary. It´s amazing how the Lord can use such unqualified servants to do His work.
Like sometimes I´m sitting in a lesson giving someone counsel about how they can save their marriage or teaching them how the gospel can give them hope and how they shouldn´t think about committing suicide and I think
"wow, I´m still a little 21 year old girl who has never been married or been through anything that could relate to what this person is going through and yet I  know the Lord called me to be here in this moment to help this person and I have authority to teach the gospel to them."
It´s amazing!
I had a really special moment recently that I wanted to share. A few days ago I went back to my 2nd area to do splits with the Sisters there. Not only was it weird to be in an area where I served a year ago but I also spent the day with Sister Machado that I trained in another area. It was so fun to see the progress of that area and also of Sister Machado. The most special part of the day was a lesson with Katia and Messias. Katia, when I knew her, was a single mom of 5 girls and 2 of them were on missions. We taught and baptized her then fiancé. Since last year, her 2 daughters have come home from their missions and she married Messias! He is doing sooooooooooo well!!! They talked about how they pray and study the scriptures together everyday and how they are preparing to be sealed in the temple at the begining of next year!! It was honestly one of the happiest moments of my misison. We finished the lesson by singing "As Familias Poderão Ser Eternas"/ "Families Can Be Together Forever!. The spirit was so special and so strong!
I love that family so much!!
As my time in the Missão Brasil Fortaleza is coming to a close I´ve been pondering a lot. I love my mission. I have this reeeeeeally annoying perfecionist part of me that wants to go back and do everything perfectly but that´s not the way life works. I´m grateful for the mistakes and imperfect things I could have done better because I have learned so much from them. I truly did my very best and I will continue to do my very best. Lots of people say that I´m "dying" because my time here is running out but that is so not true! I used to think that I needed to be perfect or know almost everything before the end of my mission but that it also not true! A mission is a springboard for the rest of my life. I have soooo many things that I still need to learn and better and I´m so grateful that I have a lifetime to do that. My mission has shown me my weaknesses and given me the tools to turn them into my strengths. My mission is mine and I love it. I means everything to me. It is truly on the beginning of my mission to preach the gospel.
One of my favorite scriptures is in D&C 50:22 and 24

Wherefore, he that preacheth and he that receiveth, understand one another, and both are edified and rejoice together.

That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light; and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day.
I love the gospel. My misison is the stinkin hardest thing I have ever done and I love it.
I love you all so much.Thank you for the suport and emails and prayers and happy news. It lifts my spirits and helps me to keep spreading light.
love and happiness and joy and hugs and more happiness from Brasil,
Sister Brown

Oct 20th

Sorry that I don´t have time to respond to everyone individually today but know that I love you all so much and so appreciate your emails!
I´m happy that I was accepted to BYU!! Life is full of twists and turns and I´m excited to see how my future will all unfold. Dad, loved your advice and congrats on the fishin´ you deserve it:) Mom, thank you for everything and all you´re doing to prepare for my transition back to reality. It´ll all work out great.
This week was wonderful! We had a bunch of miracles and a lot of friends at church on Sunday! One of the members of the temple presidency came to visit and give a special talk and it just happened to be the same Sunday that the microphone stopped working! Temple presidents and their wives don´t know how to speak very loudly and a room full of families with little children don´t know how to sit in silence so it was a little stressful for everyone.
One ofmy happiest moments of the week was during this meeting when Ismael, the 8 year old recent convert of the family we baptized sat next to the 4 year old son of Carlos who was baptized last week. Ismael was in his little white shirt andputhis arm aroundthe other little boy and helped him stay quiet and sing all the hymns. It was a precious moment.
We started teaching a newfamily that I love a LOT! The dad is less active member who wants to return adn the mom wants to be baptized. We´re helping them prepare for marriage and baptism and then the temple! They went to church alone and loved it!! Miracles are real.
i still love my companion to death. She is an angel.
I love you all sooooooooooooooo much
times up

I NEED TICKETS TO THE MORMON TAB CHRISTMAS CONCERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

October 13th

Wow. My heart is so happy.
This week was huge.
Happiest news first.
I HAVE A NEW COMPANION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To be honest she´s not actually a missionary, she´s an angel. I have honestly not found a single thing wrong with her. She is incredible and I love her so so so so much! Her name is Sister Lugen and she´s from Paraguay. She grew up speaking portuguese because she lived so close to the border. She´s 19 years old and the oldest of 6 children. She is extremely gentle and sweet and tenderly loving. She is an incredible missionary who loves to work and just does everything dilligently and incredibly. I am learning so much with her.She just has a healing energy about her that is so beautiful. We work very well together and have a very similar style of teaching because the missionary who trained her, and her last companion, was the very first missionary that I trained, Sister Ferreyra. We just love each other and are going to have a wonderful transfer:)
Other happy news, Carlos was baptized!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was a miracle that it all worked out with everything that happened this week. No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing! He was so happy! He bought a bunch of church clothes this week by himself and was so excited to show them to us. He´s extremely friendly and everyone loves him.
We also started teaching a new family this week that is really special. They have a little 8 year old son who is way funny. I´ll include a picture.
I love my mission. I love this work. I LOVE my companion! I love the gospel.
I am so grateful for the atonement that carries us when we can´t go on by ourselves. I have a stronger testimony than ever of the power of fervent prayer. I know God lives and loves us. I know this is His true church.
My invitation this week is to be like my companion. Help everyone without being asked or expecting anything in return. Love people and treat everyone like the Savior would.
I LOVE YOU!!

Sister Brown

October 7th

Dear family,
First things first...no one told me Kimberly is pregnant!! (Booo, tell me things!) YAY! more Brown babies to love! I´m so happy!!
What a week!
To be honest, I´m emotionally (and I think physically too) exhausted. This transfer has been a ton of work. I thought that we would be having some changes with the new transfer but I´m happy to say that I´ll be staying and finishing my misison in the Maraponga ward that I love so much!! I´ll be finishing the training of Sister Santos and I know that I am going to learn sooo much. This transfer has helped me find and discover a lot of my personal weaknesses. I feel like last transfer I started a deep cleaning project. The last few weeks I´ve been pulling out everything from under my bed and now will be the time for me to organize and sort and put everything in order. This is going to be a great transfer and I´m so excited to give everything I have to the Lord and sprint to the finish line.
Conference was incredible. increcible, incredible, incredible
Before the conference, I wrote down 6 big life questions that I needed God to answer for me- and boy did He ever! Every session was a flow of personal revelation. It was truly an amazing experiece! ALL of them were boldly and clearly answered and I received answers to questions that I hadn´t even perceived that I needed to answer. I am SO grateful to know that we have a living prophet on the earth today. What a special knowledge. Growing up in good ol´Utah, singing "We Thank Thee Oh God For a Prophet" was second nature. As a missionary living almost in another world, I have come to know for myself just how weirdly unique and wonderfully assuring it is to KNOW that God has His mouth on the earth. We know His will for us. God has not abandoned us or left us without a guide, nor will he ever.
I want to invite you to take Elder Andersen´s challenge and record the testimony of Joseph Smith with your own testimony and to listen to it. I hope you accept and follow through with my invitation!
This week I finished the Book of Mormon! wooohooo. It was my first time reading cover to cover and really studying it all in Portuguese. It was a great experience and I´m excited to start again. I rewarded myself and bought some cool scpripture covers.
Our investigators are progressing nicely. This week we worked in 2 areas as a trio with another Sister so we didn´t have very much time to work. We are going to focus a lot on finding new families that we can help during the transfer. Please pray that this week we can find these families that the Lord is preparing.
I love this work. I love growing and changing even though it´s not comfortable or pain free. I love this Gospel and my Savior that I am striving to represent through my word and action.
Be wonderful!!
Love,
Sister Brown

Sept 22nd

Hello!
Have I ever told you how much I love, love, love reading all of your email? They fill me up with so much love and happiness and the spirit. Thank you so much for every little email. This last week the advice and love and words of encouragement were literally what saved me and got me through. I am SO blessed to have such an amazing support staff. I love and thank every one of you.
This week, we didn´t have a ton of time to work which was kind of frustrating but overall it was a great week! We are slowly constructing a good teaching pool that is progressing. Our sweet little Vanessa wasn´t baptized this week because of a few little complications but everything will work out for this Saturday. She is ridiculously excited. At church on Sunday she came up to me and said
"I have a mission"
I asked her what it was.
"I´m going to go give that old sister a hug and tell her I love her."
She then proceeded to march across the chapel and embrace with so much love a 87 year old sister in the ward. I love our little Vanessa. She´s the chubbiest, cutest little 9 year old in all of Brazil.
Another investigator, Carlos (the single dad) will probably be baptized with Vanessa this weekend. He got over his coffee addiction and is progressing a ton! He is very excited to be baptized!
I love seeing people change their lives and helping them do it!
We also started teaching a new family  this week that is just perfect! I´ll write more about them next week but please pray for Ana and her 11 year old twins.

This week during our exercise time we went running to the "feira"- like a farmers market only way cooler. There´s a street in our area that closes down on Saturday morning and everyone sets up booths to sell cool things. We bought a bunch of fruit and our fridge is packed! I´ve been eating mango and cantalope and grapes papaya and guava and al sorts of yummy fruits that don´t have names in english  that I love for breakfast everyday. I feel like I´m living in the Garden of Eden.

We had 12 new american missionaries arrive this week. A majority of them were waiting for more than a YEAR to get their VISA´s. That is persistence! One of the Sisters that arrived will be finishing her mission in 12 weeks! I am sooo grateful to HF that I got mine so soon!
I´ve been reading a bunch in the Book of Mormon this week and almost finished!
Today, I was reading about the brother of Jared and it was amazing to see how the Lord really gave to him only what he needed and only when he really needed it. The Lord has a perfect plan and always will answer our prayers giving us what me really need because He really loves us. I love to remember that the Lord cares a lot more about our eternal progression and happiness than our immediate comfort.
I know that the Book of Mormon is true.
I love this work, I love the gospel and I love my family soooo much!
Thank you for your prayers, I really need them!
I LOVE YOU!!

Sister Brown

September 15th

Once again, I have noooo time to tell you about my week.
I learned so much this week.
Heavenly Father truly has a perfect plan and I know that He cares so much more about our eternal progress and the person He is helping usbecome than our immediate comfort. Growing and changing isn´t always comfortable but it´s sure worth it in the long run. I´m grateful for everything HF has taught me and is teaching me.
Our investigators are progressing well! Carlos stopped drinking coffee and is progressing well for his baptism date! Wooohooo!
This week we are preparing sweet 9 year old Vanessa for baptism. She´s the little sister of our recent convert Felipe- he´s planning on baptizing her and it will be a great experience!
Thank you so much for the prayers and love and support! It makes alll the difference!
Be wonderful and look a little deeper for the good!
love,
Sister Brown

September 1st

Hello loved ones!
I really just love Brazil so much...so much. I´m madly in love with my mission and it is passing sooo fast!
I love training a new missionary...but man...it´s a lot of work!
My new companion is really cool and way different than any other companion I´ve ever had.
Her name is Sister Santos.
She´s from the interior of São Paulo, graduated college in Human Resources and 35 years old.
She´s a convert of 3 years and has 7 tattoos and I love her a lot. She´s super firey and already just talks with everyone. She´s way funny and I love her.
This week was lovely.
A few highlights-
Camilly is the niece of our ward mission leader. She´s 12 but look and acts like she´s 20. I love her a lot. She started coming to church and participating in literally EVERYTHING when we started teaching her a few months ago. The only problem is that she for some reason that didnpt seem to exist, she didn´t want to be baptized. We followed the spirit and felt that we needed to stop teaching her. It was hard but we told her 3 weeks ago that we needed to focus on the people that wanted to be baptized. She kept coming to church and participating in everything and then Saturday, I got the impression that we needed to meet and teach her. We asked a member to call her in that same moment and as it turns she was at the chapel. We met her there and taught her in the YW´s room with 2 of her member friends. The lesson was going great and she really opened up. My companion helped her a TON. Then our awesome Bishop passed by and walked in. He helped us teach her and it was perfect!!! We invited her to be baptized and she accepted! She had an interview with Bishop the next day and marked a goal with him to be baptized on the 20th of September! We have plans to teach her parents and help all of them be baptized together.
It was truly a miracle. Please pray for Camilly.
The other happy moment was the Primary Program. It was fantastic. Our little, perfect recent convert Ismael (son of Regina) participated and bore his testimony about his baptism in front of everyone.
He talked about how he felt something almost firey and special deep within him when he was baptized and how it was the best day of his life.
Then he stopped, giggled a little giggle and said really fast "Annnnnd.... I want to be Bishop. In -the-name-of-Jesus-Christ-amen
Everyone laughed sooo hard and it was a happy missionary moment.
We had a special Mission Tour where the General Authority of our area came to check things out and give us trainings. Our dear Presidente talked a lot about preparing the people of Fortaleza for the temple that is coming and how we have everything we need for sucess. Elder Mazzagard was super powerful. He talked a lot about the power of pondering. I know that this is a real gift that HF gave us. The power to think and ponder and receive his revelation. This is something that I want to develop at lot more in the last part of my mission. My invitation for all of you this week is to pray and then ponder. Pondering is not just letting your mind wander but it thinking actively. Think of a topic to ponder, do a self inventory to see what christlike atributes you need to develop, think about how you can help someone in your ward. Pray and ponder and let the Lord guide your life.
I love you!
SO much love,
Sister Brown

FAMILY!!
I love you all and miss you a bunch
! I can´t believe how fast my mission is passing! I´m down to 12 weeks! :(
Boo. I have so many other happy pictures that I want to send you! I´ll ask our bishop to send them for me later today. I´ve never really expressed to you how much I LOVE the members here in Maraponga. They are amazing! They love the sisters. We live on the first floor of our apartment building and there are 3 other young member families that live there too. One of the families is the Bishop´s family. He´s only 33, super firey and organized and by far the best bishop I have ever met here in Brazil. I LOVE his family. He has 3 kids younger than 8 and we see them everyday because their parking space for their car is right outside our window that we always leave open. I love Maraponga sooo much.
So good news. We had transfers today and I`M STAYING IN MARAPONGA!!!!!!!!!
I am SOOOO happy!!!! I really thought I would be transferred and I was already saying "goodbye" to everyone. We received and email today and as it turns out I´ll be training!
I´m a little nervous to have to responsibility to train a new Sister and also be a Sister Training Leader AND take care of all of our recent converts and investigators but I know this transfer was very inspired and that the Lord will help me. I´ll definitely need His help.
I´m very excited that I´ll be finishing my mission training and staying in Maraponga.
Other happy news- Sister Zeller will also be staying and finishing her mission here. I´m SOOO excited that I can continue to learn with her! She´s an amazing missionary.
This week was amazing!
We had the baptisms of our little Gustavo AND Felipe. They are both so so so special and both baptisms were miracles!
Gustavo is 11 and the brother of another Felipe that we helped be baptized last transfer. Felipe baptized him- it was his first time baptizing anyone and it was so so so special! Their mom, who doesn´t have a whole lot of interest in the Church, cried and everyone felt the spirit.
The baptism of Felipe (not the same Felipe) was also baptized on the same day. He is amazing and has SO much desire to change his life. He has made a LOT of changes in his life to start to prepare for the temple and to live more in harmony with the Lord. He has SO much desire to change and it´s been a huge priveldge to teach him.
Both Felipe and Gustavo were so prepared and have so many friends in the church. It´s a wonderful feeling to do quality missionary work.
I love this work SO much.
I never have time to tell you everything I want to.
I want to just express quickly my love for the Livro de Mormon. I´m reading along with all of you (how is your challenge going?) and I was reading a whole bunch of Alma. I love it!

August 18th

This week was so full of miralces!
First happy happiness- REGINA IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We didn´t visit her this whole week to just give her a little time. We prayed and fasted and worried a lot and Saturday a bishopric member who is just amazing went to visit her. He called us later and told us she´d be going to church the next day and that it went really well. He hasn´t told us much more of the story other than that he was there for more than an hour and that she cried a lot and he gave her a priesthood blessing.
We went to visit her later that day and it was sooooo happy. Islana the 5 year old daughter came running and attacked us with a huge hug and cried "I´ve missed you sooo much!" Regina gave us huge hugs and we just went in and sang for her. We sang probably 3 hymns and were getting ready to go and she asked us to stay and sing more. She was hungry for the spirit!  We stayed and sang and at the end she got teary eyed and asked us for forgiveness. She went to church the next day and loved it! Everyone just attacked her with love.
The same day that we revisited Regina we were going to another visit when we met a girl in the street named Erika. She asked us what church we were from and we told her and asked her if she went to a church. She said "No.... but I have ALWAYS wanted to."
Golden.
We asked to teach her right then.
We went in and sat down and got to know her. We felt impressed to teach her about baptism. As it turns out she´s way shy but loves the Bible and really wants to follow Christ but doesn´t know how. We invited her to be baptizd and she accepted!  It went great and at the end of the lesson she gave the last prayer and said "You know that I´ve been praying the last 2 days to find someone to help me go tochurch and be baptized.Thank you for sending these 2 sisters to help me. "
WOW.
THIS IS NOT NORMAL! haha
It was amazing! She went to church on Sunday and we´re helping to prepare her to be baptized here soon.
We also started teaching one of our ex- investigators that was almost baptized because he showed up at church on his own. MIRACLES! He´ll be baptized this Satuday with Felipe another miracle.
Oh how cute. 2 of our recen converts just passed by and talked to us
I love missionary work. Seriously a whole ton a lot
I LOVE this gospel and I love you!
BE WONDERFUL!
LOVE,
Sister Brown

August 13th

Well, hello!
My time is SUPER short today!
This week was great.
That´s mostly true.
We had a WONDERFUL zone conference this week that changed my mission! Our new Presidente is phenomenal! His whole focus is the temple and doing quality work. The 1st Pres made a lovely change to Preach My Gospel this week and we now have to teach one more lesson berfore baptism. It´s a lesson about Enduring to the End and Temples and eternal families. I love belonging to the church that receives divine instruction! I learned so much and I am more excited than ever to find the families that HF is preparing for His true gospel and to teach them about the temple!
The very next day we had a leadership council that was equally life/mission changing! We learned and talked a lot about leading like Christ and the differences in the way that the Lord views leadership in comparison to the world. It was lovely!
The week was going great and our recents converts and investigators were progresing nicely and then suddenly last night, my world came crashing down.
Our dear sweet Regina received a visit from the pastor in her old church and is now ready to leave the church. She´s starting to doubt all of her spiritual answers that she received that this is the only true church and forgetting how wonderful and special her baptism is.
Yesterday I cried more than I have in a long time. Today I´m feeling better and more hopeful but still a little heartbroken. PLEASE pray for her and her sweet family!
I want to leave you with the words of Elder Holland

When problems come and questions arise, do not start your quest for faith by saying how much you do not have, leading as it were with your “unbelief.” That is like trying to stuff a turkey through the beak! Let me be clear on this point: I am not asking you to pretend to faith you do not have. I am asking you to be true to the faith you do have. Sometimes we act as if an honest declaration of doubt is a higher manifestation of moral courage than is an honest declaration of faith. It is not! So let us all remember the clear message of this scriptural account: Be as candid about your questions as you need to be; life is full of them on one subject or another. But if you and your family want to be healed, don’t let those questions stand in the way of faith working its miracle.
Sister Brown

August 5th

Well, hello there!
My time is short (what´s new). This week was great. It passed so fast!
I´ve reached a new level of exhausted this week. It´s really amazing that we have energy to do what we do everyday.Being a missionary in general is exhausting but when you take into account the fact that we WALK everywhere in the blazing sun for a 1 1/2 or 2 years it´s incredible. I KNOW that I am being blessed by your prayers every single day. I really can feel them!
This week ended a little less happy than last because our baptism that we were planning fell through and a lot of our investigators decided to not go to church.
The baptism was rescheduled for next week and we´re going to work hard to find next investigators who want to go to church so everything works out.
I have learned so much about the atonement during my mission. We had interviews with Presidente Bonini this week. It wasa great experience and I was reminded about my very first interview the day I got to Brasil. Presidente Souza asked me what Iwanted toget outofmy mission. I responded with one of the few Portuguese words that I knew.
"A expiação".
I told him that I wanted to learn about the atonement.
I don´t think I realized that day what learninf, truly learning about the atonement, would require.

I deeply love the inspired and famous words of Elder Holland when he says:
"Anyone who does any kind of missionary work will have occasion to ask, Why is this so hard? Why doesn’t it go better? Why can’t our success be more rapid? Why aren’t there more people joining the Church? It is the truth. We believe in angels. We trust in miracles. Why don’t people just flock to the font? Why isn’t the only risk in missionary work that of pneumonia from being soaking wet all day and all night in the baptismal font?
You will have occasion to ask those questions. I have thought about this a great deal. I offer this as my personal feeling. I am convinced that missionary work is not easy because salvation is not a cheap experience. Salvation never was easy. We are The Church of Jesus Christ, this is the truth, and He is our Great Eternal Head. How could we believe it would be easy for us when it was never, ever easy for Him? It seems to me that missionaries and mission leaders have to spend at least a few moments in Gethsemane. Missionaries and mission leaders have to take at least a step or two toward the summit of Calvary."
Missionary work is wonderful and miraculous but also really hard.
Salvation is not easy and as Elder Holland says so well it´s really not supposed to be.
I love my mission. I am so grateful for all of the difficulties that I have gone through on my mission that have helped me to truly know and love my Savior. I love the atonement because even when I go through hard things I can be grateful and still happy!
Please pray for Felipe and Gustavo who will be baptized this week. They are both amazing and I love teaching them about the power of the atonement. It it real. I know for myself. I know He lives and that this is His work.
Be wonderful!

Wow!
My heart is just exploding with happiness today!
This week was INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!
The help kept coming all week long for our sweet Regina, single mom.
She was just floored with the love from the ward and that helped that she could open her heart to the Holy Ghost to receive a sure answer that this is the true church. During the week we had several Family Nights, ward activities and lessons to help her prepare for baptism. She was SOOO ready!
Her son, Ismael, is SUPER smart. He just studies the index of the scriptures for his free time and has already read almost all of the Book of Mormon. He´s EIGHT.
On Sunday, he literally danced up and down the hallyway in the church chanting "I`M GOING TO BE BAPTIZED, TODAY! I`M GOING TO BE BAPTIZED, TODAY!"
That night the turnout was HUGE! There wasn´t even standing room.
The baptism itself was so special. Regina left the water just sobbing, literally sobbing of happiness.
Everyone loves this family so much! The Young Women sang, the Primary did a special musical number, the Relief Society and Primary presidents spoke, the bishop spoke and presented her new home teachers to her on the spot. It was perfect.
The most special part was when a man got up and bore testimony that she didn´t even know. He was the man who gave her name to us as a referral. He spoke about how he was on his motorcycle and saw us and had the impression that he needed to give the name of one of his clients to us.He ignored it but it came again so he turned around and stopped us in the street. We had written down his phone number because he lives far away and we called him during the week and told him that his referral and her son would be baptized.
This whole story was amazing from our side but it was even more special for Regina to hear this the first time the day of her baptism. Heavenly Father knew she was ready!
My invitation for all of you is more of a pleading. PLEASE do not ever ignore the promptings of the spirit! If this brother had not headed his prompting, Regina and Ismael would have not learned of the Restored Gospel. The Lord IS preparing people to receive his truth. He´s counting on you, members of His church to help him.
Listen to the spirit!
I know this is His work, not the members´, not the missionaries´, it´s His.
Listen to His spririt and He will help you do it.
I love you!

July 21st

Yet another happy week of miracles.
I decided at the beginning of this week that I want to really finish my mission sprinting to the finish and with a bang of spirituality. I started thinking about how I could do that.
I decided that it all starts with my thoughts.
On Tuesday, I prayed and made a promise with God that I would only let my mind think about the gospel and my investigators until Monday (today).
It was so hard the first day. I´m not saying that before that I never thought about the work or I let my thoughts wander to the United States all day but I made a firm commitment that morning or night, I would only think about missionary work.
By the second day it was easy!
This week we had so many miracles and I know that I was blessed because of my "sacrifice".
This week we started teaching a woman named Regina and her children. She´s a single mom and has been through a LOT. She has a beautiful spirit and everytime I look at her I see a future ordinance worker in the temple. She´s amazing. I loved her dearly from the first time we met her.
One day, after our 2nd lesson with her we were getting ready to walk our the door and I asked her the famous missionary question.
"Do you have anything we can do for you?"
I´m so used to everyone saying no, but this time it wasn´t the answer.
This beautiful woman looked down at her feet, with tears of embarassment in her eyes and said
'Sister, we don´t have ANY food in our house."
My heart completely broke!
I didn´t even know what to say! I told her to pray and ask for a miracle and that Heavenly Father would provide and we left.
We went to our next appointment to teach the nonmember son of a sister in the ward but the only thing I could think of was Regina and her 2 little children who hadn´t eaten in who knows how long.
I was obviously sad and when we got to the house of the member, who also is passing through rough stuff fianncially, I told her what had happened.
She took a breath, looked in my eyes and told me not to worry.
She then started to gather food from her cupboards (which didn´t even have very much) and put food in a bag. She sent her husband to the market and he came back soon with even more. She then accompanied us to Regina´s house and delivered the food.
My heart was so happy and I thougt that was the end of it.
We continued working for the rest of the day and on our way home that night, one of the sisters from the ward found us in her car. She told us she had been driving around the streets looking for us because she had heard about the mom who didn't have food and had some things to give to her that a bunch of women in the ward had put together. We had never even talked to the sister about the situation let alone asked for her help! It was amazing!
We went back to Regina´s house with her again and delivered several overflowing bags of food. When we got there Regina told us that she had been visited several times through out the day with members bringing her food and clothing.
I was overwhelmed.
I was almost in tears for the rest of the night. The women of the church are AMAZING! Everyone was so anxious to help. The flow of food and clothes continued for the rest of the week and Regina is now doing much better!
She is so excited about the church. She is devouring the Book of Mormon and has already started family daily scripture study and prayer with her children.
She will be baptized with her 8 year old son this Sunday.
The church is true.
We found so many amazingly prepared people this week! We had a record number that came to Sacrament meeting and 8 people with solid baptism dates. The Lord is so good to us!
Sandra and her family are doing great! We taught the Law of Chastity to her and her husband and they are planning to get married (after living together for 30+ years) and be baptized with their boys! She came to church again with one of her sons, Romo, and loved it! We haven´t taught the husband very many times and last night when we finished our lesson he didnpt want to pray. His 8 year old son Romo who is SUPER excited to be baptized told his dad
"Dad, don´t worry. I will whisper in your ear and you can just repeat what I say"
He then proceeded to whipser a beautiful prayer which his dad repeated. It was a beautiful missionary moment.
On sunday we also had a visit from Kariny, who I helped be baptized at the beginning of my mission. She is so special to me! She´s firm and happy and loving being a member of the church.
I love this work.
I´m learning more and more every day what it means to serve with all my heart, might, mind and strength. There is nothing that brings happiness and blessings like missionary work.
Have a lovely week and remember that someone (ME!) in Brasil loves you!
Love,

July 14th

Well, this week Brasil kind of went into a depressive haze. Seriously.
It got a lot better when Argentina didn´t win the world cup but everyone is still a little mopey.
Oh futebol
Besides soccer games ,this week was good!
We made some great progress with familia Roberio (remember when I cleaned up the beer fest?).
I did another crazy Sister Brown thing.
On Sunday, one of the teen age boys (from the Roberio family) didn´t want to wake up to go to church.
so....I kind of stole his blanket and dumped ice water on him until he got out of bed and got dressed. We´re totally buds and he loved it so don´t worry.
This family is bringing out the crazy side of me!
We are working really hard to find the elect families that HF is preparing to be baptized in this area. The problem is that none of them are married legally and here it´s kind of a long process to get married. I know there are elect, married families out there waiting for me to find them!!
Small miracle of the week. Yesterday, we were walking in the street and I saw one of my old investigators Leo from like 4 transfers ago. It was so weird because I had literally been looking at a picture I took with them 2 days earlier and thought "Wow, I sure would have liked to teach them more and helped them be baptized before I was transfered."
I talked to him when I saw him in the street, and it turns out they moved here last week to my new area!
The wife, Jessica, had been saying that very day that she wanted to find the Mormon church here in their new neighborhood. True story.
We went there that afternoon and they had gone to church in my old area where they moved from. I talked to Jessica´s mom who lives there that I had never met and it turns out she too has interest to learn more about the church because HER SON is on a mission. It was so cool. I know that refinding this family was an answer to an Elder´s prayers to help his family find the gospel.
We´ll teach Jessica and Leo more this week but please pray for them!
I love you all soooo much!
I KNOW this is the Lord´s work and that He always has a perfect plan that we need to trust. His timing is perfect.
I love you!
Be wonderful!

July 8th

This week was field with fun things!
First things first.
I LOVE MY NEW MISSION PRESIDENTEE!!
he is perfect. He´s a military man and knows how to lead but he is aso one of the most Christlike and loving people I have ever met. He´s from São Paulo, 58, convert to the church and has 5 grown children who stayed in São Paulo. Sister Bonini is equally wonderful. She´s the sweetest most loving cuddy person ever. She gives the best hugs. I seriously love them. They are exactly what our mission needs. His theme is to start with the end in mind. We are focusing a lot more onthe temple and doing quality work. He is incredible.
The training that Sister Zeller adn I gave was amazing! Not because of us, but because Heavenly Father is really good to us. It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot. The training will now be passed on the mission in general and we´ll reteach it to another group this week.
We are teaching a really special family named Familia Roberio. They have 5 children and we´re teaching 3 of them. The kids are going to church and liking it a lot. We taught the Restoration to them this week and at the end we invited the parents to pray and ask if thisis the true church. They said they didn´t need to because "God is aready giving us an answer in our hearts that this is the true church".
Seriously
We marked a date for them to be baptized adn a of them accepted.
We taught them every day this week adn sady Saturday night we found the dad drinking in the street with some buddies.
I went into crazy Sister Brown mode. haha
We went inside and found the mom crying. Then I ust new what to do. We said a prayer, gave her a hug, and went out to round up the dad. I made him clean a of the beer up and throw it away. He was way drunk.
I made him send everyone home and told him to go take a shower and go to bed. All of the wives of the men that were drinking were so impressed and loved it. After when we were eaving a few of them asked me "what church are you from???". it was a happy missionary moment.
Sunday, we had a milion problems with our investigators going to church. It was so frustrating. No matter hw much time I have onthe mission it will always be hard for me to see people using their agency to break commandments. Heavenly Father has sooo much patience!
I learned this week that even if my investigators won´t learn and apply the lessons I´m teaching, at least I WILL.
2 more happy stories,
This week on the 4th of July, Brasil had a soccer game. We aren´t alowed to leave during the games so we had a little 4th of July party.
Sister Zeller and I are nuts. We took a bunch of silly pics. My computer is annoying and not working so I´ll send them next week. We made appe pie and bbq chicken and watermelnon
Other story, I met a 75 year old man with a HUGE record collection this week. he quicky became my best friend and gave me......a BING CROSBY AND ROSEMARY CLOONEY duet record. I died.
Iove you all!!!

June 30

I tried on a small pair of printed skinny jeans today they fit me. Thanks to brasilian diseases and a new way of eating, I´ve lost a lot of weight ha.

Anyway, they pants were lovely and I bought them. Why? I still don´t know because I´m a Sister but whatever.

In other news, this week was lovely!

We worked sooo hard and talked with SO many people. We started this week with a small teaching group with little potential and ended it with SIX NEW FAMILIES!!! They are all wonderful and have soooo much potential! 3 of them had at least 1 person in church this week and we are planning on marking baptism dates with all of them this week! The work of the Lord moves on, folks!

I am loving this area and the ward and the sisters here and everything! We are going to have a lot of miracles and baptisms next transfer!

We had a very sad and also life moving conference this week. Presidente e Sister Souza are no longer here. The conference was to say goodbye to them. It was full of crying, lots of life counse, and lots of me singing! It was honestly a little stressful. I helped put together 2 musical numbers and the last second (literally 15 minutes before the conference started to do another.

(Mom, do not judge me in the video! It wasn´t really a quartet, it was my solo with them accompanying, also I´m sick, also I didn´t warm up, also I was crying. I didn´t even see the video that guy sent you.)

We learned so much. They both told their conversion stories and the missionary that found and baptized Sister Souza was THERE! Sooo cool. They all talked a ton about marriage and that was kind of weird but apparently inspired or something haha. I am going to miss them sooo much.

We have another conference to get to know President and Sister Bonini this Wednesday. Sister Zeller and I were asked to give a training that will be passed on to the mission for a leadership training that will take place right after the conference. We´re a little way nervous because it´s a huge honor to give a training in a leadership conference but a huge stress when it´s the 1st one with our new presidente. Pray for us. haha

I love this work with all my heart. I know it is true. I know repentence is a real power. Remember that the Lord will literally not remember our sins if we truly and correctly repent of them. We need to let Him forgive and forget. We also need to forgive and forget ourselves. We are all imperfect and there is no one on the earth who doesn´t need to be cleansed throught the perfectness of  Christ. Be kind and patient with the imperfect people around you, including yourself.

I love you sooooo much!!

Love, Sister I-bought-pants-today Brown
